What is Modern Jive? |

What is Modern Jive? Modern Jive is an informal partner dance, danced to a four-time beat and to a wide range of musical styles. It’s not the same as Jive taught in ballroom classes (it’s easier and more fun!). Modern Jive is based on the traditional American Jive that came to Europe during the Second World War. When the Americans left there were no experienced teachers to keep it going – a new, simplified style developed that became known as Modern Jive. What sort of music is played? If you come to a Dance Night you will find a wide range! Styles include pop from all decades (the majority of the music) plus swing, disco, rock-and-roll and latin. Think Madonna to Sinatra and everything in between! We choose the tracks very carefully; you’ll be itching to get on the floor and DANCE! Be honest, how hard is it really? Modern Jive is, without a doubt, the easiest dance style. There is very little footwork to learn and when it is well taught everyone (and we mean everyone) can learn it. After just one lesson you’ll be able to jive! I’m a beginner, I’m keen, what do I do next? Book onto one of our "Learn Modern Jive in a Day" courses. here Can I come on my own? Definitely, many people do. We only book equal numbers of men and ladies so don't worry that you'll be standing around waiting for a turn J What do I wear? Anything from jeans and t-shirt to specialist dance-wear! But you will need smooth-soled shoes (especially the ladies) so you can spin – trainers won’t work!. Where else will I be able to use this new skill? Anywhere that’s playing four-time music – discos, weddings, the queue at the Post Office, etc. What does it cost? £45 per person Typically local lessons after will be £5-7. Typically local Friday or Saturday dances will be £7-8. I’m interested but not sure . . . First of all, please, please give it a go – we’re sure you’ll love it. Contact us on 07710 878178 or andy@borntojive.co.uk for a chat and we'll try to overcome all your worries – you won’t regret it!
